Maintaining a Motorised Gate

Maintaining a Motorised Gate

The security of your home is very important, and motorised gates are a great way of keeping it safe. Since this type of gate is remote controlled, it is sometimes called an automated gate. Besides high protection, it also adds an element of style to the home. This gate is easily fitted onto almost any type of fence. If you have small children in your family who love running out of the house and onto the road, motorised gates can keep you worry-free about their safety.

There are two types of motorised gates. In the slider variety, the gate slides on a steel runner. The swing type of gate has a pair of mechanical arms. Both work equally well to protect your home, so you may install either type as per your convenience and the way the gate opens onto the road. A sliding gate is more practical if the access lies on an elevation, while a swing gate is ideal for narrow entrances.

Working of a Motorised Gate

The main element in a motorised gate is its electro-mechanical motor. The runner or mechanical arm attaches the motor to the body of the gate. When you push the open / shut button on the hand-held controller, it functions as a transmitter, sending a radio signal to a receiver box placed near the motorised gate. This receiver activates the sliding or swinging circuit to trigger the gate to open or close. The electronic system that controls the movement of the gate runs on a battery that is powered either by solar energy or mains AC power. Most motorised gates are designed to close automatically after a predetermined period, even if you forget to press the shut button. One problem with the operation of the wireless controller device is that it may not be able to transmit radio signals in bad weather conditions, and you may need to open or close the gate manually.

Factors to Consider When Installing a Motorised Gate

The motor should be powerful enough to control the weight of the gate; this can be easily checked with a motorised gate specialist. You will be using the gate several times a day on a daily basis, so it pays to invest in a high-quality system that will operate properly without much maintenance for a long period of time. Don’t forget to check the quality of the runner or mechanical arm as well. Motors driven purely by mains power may need battery backup during power outages, although a solar powered unit is preferred as an eco-friendly option.Besides the basic automated gate system, you can install value-add features such as auto reverse and photo electric safety beams to prevent the gate from closing on a pedestrian. A video intercom system will allow you to activate the gate from the convenience of your home. You may also install a keypad access point for additional security.
