Finding the Right Demolition Company
Looking to knock down and rebuild your house, or just part of the house? If you’re looking for one of these extreme makeovers, you’ll probably want to employ a demolition company (no, they won’t blow things up). You want to be sure about employing the right type of demo company. Trust us – finding the right one is a tricky process, and the decision is not one to be made rashly. You don’t want to employ the wrong one, and end up really regretting the job they did! So, when it comes time to knock down and rebuild, how do you go about finding the right demo company?
DO YOUR RESEARCH
Make sure that your demolition company is properly bonded and insured and that they have all the equipment needed for the job. Each knockdown is different, so you need to ensure that their methods are right for the job. Also, make sure that the demolition company actually removes the trash they create. With any demo job, there’s a lot of trash created – rocks, refuse, building materials and dirt, for example. You don’t want to be stuck with that trash. Most demo companies should offer to remove that material, and some might even offer a discount if you allow them to salvage valuable refuse (windows, doors, timber, steel). It could end up saving you a lot of money.
CHECK OUT WHAT THEY OFFER
Chances are that you’re going to need a lot of work alongside the demo job. There’s a ton of other stuff that comes with a rebuild – like excavation, tree cutting and leveling. Look into what the demo company offers. Make sure that they can, and will, provide all the different services needed or will at least work with a different contractor to get the job done. Also, make sure the company can work with dangerous materials. Older houses will likely have asbestos in the home; you’ll have to make sure the demo company can remove the material and decontaminate the entire site while following the laws set in place.
PRICE MATTERS
Get a detailed quote on the entire project right from the beginning. Make sure it details how the job will go, how the salvage and removal process will take place, and if there are any extra costs for asbestos removal or additional services. Also, make sure you get a sense of how long the job will take – you might be displaced for a while, so it’s a good idea to check and see how long you’ll be out of the house.
